Northern Idaho prosecutors say they're prepared to pursue the death penalty for the shooting death of a 16-year veteran of the Coeur d'Alene Police Department.

Sgt. Greg Moore, 43, was gunned down in May 2015 while on patrol. His funeral attracted law enforcement from throughout Idaho and the Intermountain West, with citizens lining portions of Interstate 90 as a procession of emergency vehicles escorted Moore's body to his burial.

According to prosecutors, Jonathan Renfro, 27, of Rathdrum, was captured on body camera footage shooting the officer. He was charged with felony counts of murder and this morning's Coeur d'Alene Press reports the Kootenai County prosecutor's office will seek the death penalty.

No trial date has been set, but prosecutors filed paperwork Dec. 31, 2015, notifying the court that they will try the case as a capital crime.
