Ready or Not, Boise, Here Come Triple-Digit Days

Public swimming pools won't open soon enough for Treasure Valley residents who are bracing for Mother Nature's furnace to kick into high gear.

The Weather Channel is predicting Boise area highs near, at or above 100 degrees this coming weekend, as a weather system from western Canada suppresses the upper-level trough of more seasonable air, thus pushing temperatures as much as 20 degrees above normal. The record-setting heat is also expected to trigger thunderstorms on Monday and Tuesday.

It wasn't until late June last year that Boise saw its first sustained wave of 100 degree-plus weather. In 2014, the Boise Airport only recorded 100 degrees for seven days through the entire summer.

While hardware stores expect the usual run on box fans and portable air conditioners, kids and parents should know that all Boise outdoor public swimming pools are scheduled to open Thursday, June 2, which is also the last day of school for the Boise Independent School District.
