Coastal State

It's hardly a surprise when Idaho ends up among the top 10 best ... whatever, but rarely does that distinction involve the ocean.

But that's just what set Coeur d'Alene's Sea Kayak Adventures apart for the editors of National Geographic Adventure magazine.

The outfitter, which offers whale watching and sea kayak tours in Baja, Mexico and British Columbia, was named one of the "best outfitters in the world" by the magazine.

Now that we've cracked the whole land-locked state barrier, we're just waiting for our ranking as a top surf spot.

Speed Racers

Winter may be waning, but the Bogus Basin Nordic Team is still going strong, with four skiers competing in the USSA Junior National Cross Country Skiing championship in Truckee, Calif., through Saturday, March 14.

Emma Donohoe, Charlie Fereday, Keelin Ryan and Will Wicherski are racing with the Intermountain Division Team as some of the country's top 400 junior Nordic skiers.

Keep Running

It's time to start planning for a time when racing will be done on foot or by wheel.

Registration is now open for the Endurance Festival, which offers 5K, 10K and 13.1-mile run distances, 20K, 40K and 50-mile mountain bike distances and 25K, 50K and 101.5K DuXtreme duathlon courses, as well as shorter kids' run and bike races.

The event isn't until May 30, but those who register before May only have to pay $35, compared to $55. The races will be held at the Idaho Velodrome and Cycling Park in Eagle. For more information or to register online, visit or call 208-233-3798.
