Reel Foods Fish Market Reopens on Vista Avenue

It has been more than 10 months since Boise's local seafood market Reel Foods closed the doors of its restaurant/shop on Capitol Boulevard, with plans to reopen soon at an undetermined location. At the time, Reel Foods owner Marcus Bonilla told BW that it would take "a minimum of two months" for the transition, but trouble with a contractor stretched that timeline considerably, putting the small, family owned business in jeopardy.

With Reel Foods' patrons eagerly awaiting news about the company, Bonilla took to social media on Sept. 12 to share the bad news that a contractor had, in his words, "left us high and dry. To the tune of about $20,000." In response to his request for help, Boiseans raised nearly $8,000 through GoFundMe, and local businesses like Lost Grove Brewing and Zee's Rooftop Cafe partnered with Reel Foods for fundraising dinners and catering jobs to make up the rest of the costs.

Luckily for all seafood lovers, there's a happy ending to this story: Reel Foods has announced it will officially reopen a fish market at its new location—1118 S. Vista Ave. in Boise—at 9 a.m. on Saturday, Dec. 8.

A message on the Reel Foods Facebook page Dec. 7. read: "For our first week stock will be limited, but we will be taking your orders and we will be prepared to provide the freshest fish in the Treasure Valley. We want to thank everyone for all the support you have given us through this journey and we can not wait to see each of you."

Don't miss this chance to welcome back one of Boise's own.
