Newport, Ore.-native Rick Bartow (1946-2016) was one of the Northwest’s best known artists. His powerful body of work was influenced by his Native American heritage, international travels and fine art training. Representing almost 40 years of work, this exhibition features nearly 100 sculptures, paintings, drawings and prints, drawn from public and private collections, that affirm this extraordinary artist’s regional, national and international impact. Rather than follow a chronological survey, the show explores six themes: Gesture, Self, Dialogue, Tradition, Transformation and New Work. Organized by the Jordan Schnitzer Museum of Art, University of Oregon.
