There's spring rain in Boise's forecast, but the trails won't be wet for long, and when they dry, the Ridge to Rivers partnership has a souped-up tool for the outdoorsy: the latest edition of its trail map.

"This new map allows the Ridge to Rivers partnership to better communicate and interact with all types of trail users," wrote Boise Parks & Recreation Director Doug Holloway in a press release. "It's a great way to discover new trails and reserves, and the 3D feature allows you to better prepare for conditions along the way."

The map does, indeed, have a 3D modeling feature, and trail users will find the delight of the revamped map is in the details: It loads faster, it has been optimized for smartphone use, and the navigate and search functions are smoother and more intuitive. It also has difficulty ratings, so newcomers to the Foothills trail system aren't blindsided by steep inclines or tough terrain, and a function that lets people search for off-leash trails for their dogs.

The only thing it doesn't come with is a phone charger. That one's on trail users.
