Re: “Video: BYU-Idaho Produces Video, Comparing Masturbation to War

Zane Beal,

I'm not sure why you feel the need to be so stand-offish about the issue.

Anyway, I'm not trying to argue FOR the idea that pornography is addictive, I'm just pointing out that your study was hardly reliable.

Also, it sounds like you're confusing addiction with consequence. IF pornography was addictive, it wouldn't have to have the exact same consequence as drug usage. To suggest that viewing pornography has to end in death and organ failure in order to be considered addictive is, quite frankly, ridiculous.

I guess, in the context of this debate, addiction needs to be defined more clearly. Is it an action that becomes self-perpetuating, encouraging repition and dependency? If so, how do we define dependency in the context of sex and porn?

There's plenty of stories of men who find it harder to get off to their wife because they have become "conditioned" to the level of sexual inhibition displayed in porn. Does this qualify as a dependency?

I'm not trying to argue either way, but I am trying to point out that your argument comes across as both biased and poorly structured.

Zane Beal,

The "study" you posted compromised a mere 52 people, and didn't even feature a control group...
