Re: “Officers Respond to Report of Rifle-Carrying Man on BSU Campus

Add me to the folks living near the BSU campus who do not like the idea of random, gun-toting people wandering around the neighborhood. I think guns are fine in their place, and in the hands of the right people. History has shown that a college campus is not the place. The law was created by the NRA, but can be changed by actual people with some sense of perspective.

Re: “Hindu Prayer in Idaho Senate: 'Lead Us From Darkness to Light'

I have to wonder how much religious tolerance the "Maleficent Seven" will demonstrate at the official Idaho State Prayer Breakfast on May 14.

Re: “What a Waste

I know the Food Bank and other worthy causes do work with area grocers and merchants to use food that is still "good," even though past its sell-by date. But I hope more can be done to minimize this awesome and largely unnecessary waste.

Re: “Our Man in Cuba: Butch Otter

Butch is as wrong about Cuban food as he is about honest governance in Idaho. Let's see how quickly he puts together a new trade delegation to Cuba now that the lid's off.

Re: “Meet Idaho's New 'Chief of Schools'

One "positive" from this particular election result is that we know there is a great deal to be done to "educate" Idaho voters about education needs and policy objectives. It's clear that the majority of voters paid no attention to the qualifications gap between their ultimate choice and her worthy opponent.
Idaho cannot afford to continue to trail in the most important measures of public education (not only the per pupil spending measure). Quality of public education reflects on the ability of our kids to pursue more advanced studies, to obtain training and skills for better-paying jobs, and to compete nationally and internationally. To say the least, this is going to be a challenge.

Re: “Do You Think This Shirt is Inappropriate for an Idaho Student?

I have looked and looked and can't see anything controversial in what she's wearing, so, as some others have said, we must not be getting whatever the "real" issue with this young lady and her school might be. But as a matter of "appropriate" clothing, this is a nonstarter.

Re: “Creationist Museum Opens in Boise

Your first sentence sets up a false premise by suggesting there is some kind of "debate" over creation myths vs. scientific fact. I presume (because I will never go there) that this one is presenting a Christian version of the creation myth, but of course there are many, many other creation myths in other religions and cultures that are, in some cases, even more fantastic, but no more factual. Keep religion in church and in your hearts, but don't try to present it as museum material.
