Re: “A Publisher Attacks

Well, shoot, if you would have called I'd have been glad to provide some additional information on this issue as president of Idaho Allied Dailies and editor and publisher of the Post Reigister in Idaho Falls. Both IAD, which represents all Idaho daily newspapers, and the Idaho Newspaper Association, which represents nearly all weeklies, support this lawsuit. Believe it or not, it's not about money -- it's about principle. Should the Statesman prevail, it will earn very little additional revenue. What we hope to do is simply reaffirm a basic principle -- that public notices are important enough to be printed in newspapers that are read by as many people as possible. Otherwise, what's the point of a public notice? The Idaho Business Review is the only newspaper of which we're aware that flouts this law. Agreed -- it's a bit of inside baseball and not terribly interesting to a lot of folks. But it's not David versus Goliath, either -- it's about the public's right to know.
