For the seventh year, the Natatorium goes to the dogs

See Spot Splash is just a big dose of soul happiness.

Aug. 24 was the first day of school—and the last day of swimming for the summer at the Natatorium Pool and Hydrotube. For the seventh year in a row, Boise Parks and Recreation and the Idaho Humane Society let the pools go to the dogs for See Spot Splash.

Great Danes and Chihuahuas alike scrambled around the side of the pool, wading carefully into the kiddie pool and jumping full-on into the deep end. While the sportier dogs—the golden retrievers and labradors—had no trouble making the leap, other pups weren't so sure.

The event may be more for the sheer delight of Boise's dog owners than for the actual dogs. Owners spent the evening trying to coax their four-legged friends into the water long enough to snap a picture and post it on Instagram.

To keep chaos to a (relative) minimum, the pool capped at 50 dogs at any given time. The line to get into the pool stretched along the fence Monday evening, while the Idaho Humane Society's donation jar filled. The event was free, and donations went toward the dog parks of Boise.

Afterward, pool maintenance workers were left with the job of draining the brown-hued water, clearing drains of fur and dog poop, and scrubbing the pools clean for next year.
