Re: “First Co-operative Brewpub in the USA?

Rogilman: Yes, it's still capitalism... but since we still live in a capitalist society, I'd rather the majority of the institutions operating in it be worker and/or member-owned cooperatives than dictatorial top-down institutions where workers and customers have little to no voice.
Some of my favorite places in the San Francisco Bay Area are worker-owned cooperatives, including Rainbow Grocery in SF, which has an AMAZING selection, is WAY cheaper than Whole Foods, and has NO membership fee. And Cheeseboard Pizza Collective in Berkeley that has the best pizza I've ever had, at $2.50 a slice, plus they always throw in an extra 1/2 slice and have live jazz, and again, NO membership fee. I also belong to a credit union (which, by definition, is owned by its members), and I pay no membership fee and get amazing rates, low fees, and great service.

So, yes, this new brewpub co-op IS something to celebrate... I hope I can visit Austin sometime in the near future to check it out!
