Simpson Challenged

U.S. Rep. Mike Simpson finally has a challenger for his Second Congressional District seat, although few have ever heard of her.

Democrat Debbie Holmes announced her candidacy last week, stating in a posting on that Simpson shouldn't be allowed to run unopposed.

Holmes identifies herself as a trained chemist working as a real estate agent in the Treasure Valley. It's the first political campaign for the mother of three.

She's already announced the first parts of her platform, including support for alternative fuels, the Kyoto Protocol and stronger regulation of the banking industry.

Four candidates are currently vying for the First District seat: Republicans Rep. Bill Sali and Matt Salisbury and Democrats Walt Minnick and Larry Grant (BW, News, "Fun in Cd1," March 12, 2008).
