You can call it the "Seven Million Dollar Store." That's how much the new Albertsons on Broadway Avenue cost, and the public gets its first eye-popping look at the much-anticipated grocery today. The spacious store sits on a good-sized land parcel next to where another Albertsons stood since 1959, until a wrecking ball brought it down last year.
The new Albertsons location actually has two stories, with a dining area and even a bar, dubbed "Broadway on the Rocks," on the upper floor. Visitors can enjoy no fewer than 26 beer taps at the bar, along with mixed drinks and wine by the glass.
But the real dazzlers are on the ground floor, where a massive fresh produce section dubbed "The Garden" shares space with a giant pizza oven, burger grill, stir-fry chicken station, sandwich bar and plenty of grab-and-go items. Meats, seafood, baked goods and cheeses all have their own spotlight, and the aisles of beer and wine showcase one of the largest selections in any Treasure Valley store.
While the store swung its doors open to customers this morning, a grand opening celebration
is set for Saturday, July 21—79 years to the day from when Joe Albertsons opened his first Boise store.
