In 2015, Treefort Music Fest announced it had broken even. The news showed Treefort's staying power: Since year one, the event has grown from a music-first festival to a dayslong cornucopia of "Forts" to suit practically any interest.

At its 2016 launch party Feb. 6 at El Korah Shrine, organizers pulled out all the stops with performances by Portland, Ore.-based The Thermals and Boise locals Clarke and the Himselfs and Toy Zoo.

The launch party marked the beginning of the 45-day countdown to Treefort Music Fest itself, slated to go down March 23-27. Already, there have been two artist announcements totaling 170 bands, with more to come.

Scores of big-name alternative music acts, including Boise-based Built to Spill, Youth Lagoon and others, have signed up to perform at the five-day festival.

Another sign of the times: The headlining act for the Treefort Launch Party was Boise-based Youth Lagoon, whose frontman Trevor Powers on Feb. 1 announced the band is breaking up, and its upcoming appearance at Treefort would be among its last.
