"People can meet them, play with them, take pictures. It's a great opportunity for the animals to be socialized."

For people who love animal videos but are tired of spending every waking moment on the internet, a film festival duo traveling to Boise might have the purr-fect solution.

Tracie Hotchner launched the New York Dog Film Festival in 2015 and it fetched a paw-erful response.

"When people come out, they look like they've had a kind of spiritual experience, like you might imagine if had a Zen master do some yoga type thing with them," said Hotchner.

Three years later, the festival now travels to 30 cities on a Great Dane-sized tour, and this year, for the first time, the New York Cat Film Festival prowls alongside it.

The Dog Film Festival will play in Boise at the The Flicks on Saturday, Aug. 4, at 12:30 p.m., and The Cat Film Festival will play on Sunday, Aug. 5, at 12:30 p.m. Tickets for either cost $10, or it's $12 for both.

The Idaho Humane Society, which will receive 10 percent of ticket sales, will provide a "snuggle express" at each festival.

"People can meet them, play with them, take pictures. It's a great opportunity for the animals to be socialized," said Sam Kennedy, IHS communication assistant.

The films are suitable for all ages, but Hotcher said their "sophisticated content" and "philosophical ideas" are more appropriate for adults. The festivals are a treat for those hounded by a hair-raising world.

"At a time in our lives when things sometimes feel joyless, we know that animals are where people turn to for that comfort and pleasure," said Hotchner.
