Something Has Gone Awry...

It is amazing how difficult it is to accomplish simple tasks sometimes, yet all outdoor recess and soccer practices and games for school kids can be cancelled in an instant. Not that I don't agree that the air quality is poor. But doesn't spraying pesticides to combat West Nile Virus also affect air quality? This decision seemed to be rather abrupt as well. Something has gone awry. Last year, I learned that the strip of land next to my home was unattached to the lots on either side, due to some 1940s error on the plats between two joining subdivisions. The way I found out was that I received a tax bill for $17.94, which had been delinquent for the three prior years. Through further investigation, it was confirmed that there was a long, 10-foot-wide strip lost in no man's land so the county was losing precious tax dollars. The block had to go up for auction even though both interested parties (my neighbors and me) had agreed that I would purchase the piece. So, I went to the auction expecting it to be a simple process, since I own the only piece of land adjoined to this block. To my surprise, several people started outbidding me. To this day, I still wonder what they would have done with this piece of property had I stopped bidding. Maybe a billboard? I wonder what it would have said ...
