Space Car

June 30, The Olympic

On its Facebook page, Boise-based Space Car lists the following interests: "Parties, Sword Fighting, Interplanetary Anthropology and Exploration, Thumb Wars, Dark Jedi, Absurd Situations, Logic, Powerful Speeches, Iced Tea, Kettle Corn, Slaying Dragons, Magic the Gathering, Nice Fitting Pants, Space Babes [and] Elevators." Space Car's 2013 self-titled debut had a low-fi vibe with a comedic kick, and was based on the above list. A sense of humor is still a Space Car trait.

Fans of Space Car, who the band affectionately refers to as "cadets," have been drawn in since 2011 by a combination of high-energy performances, "street-pop" sound and jokey lyrics. Space Car has played all over Boise including at Treefort Music Fest, Liquid, Vista Bar and multiple times at The Olympic, where the band will return on Friday, June 30, with Seattle-based Black Plastic Clouds and local group Mantooth. What does Space Car have to say about this homecoming? "'Hi, Mom.'"
