St. Luke's Magic Valley Confirms Child's Death Was Due to Receiving Wrong Medication

Officials at St. Luke's Magic Valley Medical Center in Twin Falls had the grim task on Friday of confirming a child died after being administered the wrong medicine at the hospital. Calling the incident a "tragedy," hospital officials didn't reveal many details but confirmed that medical center had launched an internal investigation.

Additionally, the Twin Falls County prosecutor's office confirmed detectives from the Twin Falls Police Department would assist in the probe.

Meanwhile, officials at the Idaho Department of Health and Welfare said they expect a formal report to reach their Boise offices within a week, at which time it will be reviewed by the Centers for Medicare and Medicaid Services, a division of the department.

St. Luke's officials said the child's family would be offered assistance but "out of respect for the family," no further details would be released.
