Story Story Night: Brave the Elements—Gold

Wednesday, Dec. 26, JUMP

During the Civil War, gold was discovered in the Boise Basin, kicking off the biggest gold rush since the stuff was found in California in the 1850s. The newly founded Idaho City swelled to 7,000 people, making it the biggest city in the Northwest—bigger, even, than Portland, Oregon—but by 1870, the gold had started to run dry, and the town's population dwindled. Gold is woven into the fabric of the Gem State, and on Wednesday, Dec. 26, it will get its due at Story Story Night's second installment of Brave the Elements, a storytelling series based on elements from the Periodic Table, with featured storytellers, story slammers and more hitting the stage to tell stories that all have one thing in common: gold.
