Berto -- Thanks for the idea of at least finding compromise. However, no one is asking you or your church to give up anything. Be against marriage equality and be against gay people if you like, but you don't have the right to deny basic rights to other people based on your religious beliefs, just as a Catholic who does not believe in divorce (I myself am Catholic and our church does not believe in civil divorce under any circumstance.) does not have the right to deny you, or anyone, the right to divorce.

It is wrong to confuse the religious (r i t e) concept of marriage with the civil r i g h t of marriage. It is a civil right -- read the decision in Loving v. Virginia, 1967.

Personally I believe all civil marriage should be called "civil unions" to avoid confusuon and give the term marriage back to religious institutions.
