The suspect involved in a police-related shooting Oct. 26 near the Boise Depot has been discharged from a local hospital and is now in police custody.

Patrick Zavala, 37, is charged with felony counts of unlawful possession of a weapon and parole violation.

According to police, Zavala had been involved in a traffic stop near the intersection of Rose Hill and Peasley streets just before midnight Oct. 26. Zavala, who was armed, fled on foot down Peasley Street. After making repeated commands for Zavala to drop his firearm, the arresting officer, Adam Crist, fired his weapon, wounding Zavala. Police also believe Zavala may have fired his weapon during the altercation, wounding himself.

Police later said they recognized Zavala from a traffic stop the night before, when Zavala successfully escaped on foot.

After receiving medical treatment for injuries to his hand and leg on the scene, Zavala was rushed to a nearby hospital. He was released to the police Oct. 31 and charged.

At the time of the incident, Boise police were conducting an investigation into "suspicious, possible drug and weapons activity."

Meanwhile, the incident activated the Ada County Critical Incident Task Force, which will conduct an independent investigation into the officer-related shooting. The Idaho State Police will also conduct an inquiry.
