Detectives are investigating the sudden death of a man who passed away early today while being taken into custody by Boise Police. The incident occurred as BPD officers were investigating a report of an alleged battery near the Intersection of State Street and Horseshoe Bend Road just after 4 a.m. on Wednesday. Police said the male suspect was cooperating with authorities, but appeared to have a medical emergency shortly after being placed under arrest.

Police reported they began life-saving measures and requested the assistance of paramedics, but when the man was transported to a local hospital he was pronounced dead upon arrival.

The man has been identified by the Ada County Coroner as 45-year-old Scott Townsend. The investigation is ongoing, and police said the coroner's office is still awaiting toxicology test results.
