If you're a horror movie buff with a soft spot for big-screen monsters like Frankenstein's Creature and Dracula, then Friday, Oct. 26, is your lucky day.

For the final show in its current downtown Boise location (a move, likely to Garden City, is in the works) Swell Artist Collective is drawing inspiration from Halloween for a spooktacular sendoff from 5-9 p.m.: the Creature Feature Show. Swell Co-owner and artist Nobel Hardesty said that although the 21 participating artists were told to create works based on movie monsters, he kept the rules "a little bit loose," giving them space to be creative.

"I did prompt classic movie monsters, and that's probably 95 percent of it," said Hardesty. "There are a couple Nosferatus, Creature from the Black Lagoon seemed popular this year, the bride of Frankenstein, The Blob—so we're getting real classic with some of this stuff."

As for the number of Boiseans he thinks would hang the multi-media monster likenesses on their walls, Hardesty had this to say:

"People love Halloween. ... Part of the reason that I even started Swell is to put on shows that I want to put on, and this is one of those shows."

Hardesty told Boise Weekly the collective has outgrown its current space, and while Garden City isn't locked in as a new location for the group, he likes the up-and-coming art scene there. Wherever it ends up, he added that Swell plans to focus more on off-site events in the future, like 32 Cells at the Old Pen and Artcade at Spacebar, which have become big feathers in its cap.
