Re: “Plug Ugly

The truth goes much deeper than the partisan comments that show up here. While Mr. Cope is correct to point out the blatant abandonment of governmental oversight by the Cheney administration, what is left out is the fact that Cheney, his puppet, and his neoconservative friends were able to pull off this debacle, as well as the WMD scam and the unitary president scam, because the nation's ideological center has been moving unrelentingly to the right since at least the assassination of JFK (probably since the beginning of WW II, and maybe before).

The very idea that Barack Obama is a liberal is ridiculous -- he's at least as conservative as Daddy Bush and Bill Clinton. The number of liberal legislators in DC could probably be counted on one's fingers.

Re: “Bail Out Your Own Damn Self

Tempting, but like most Americans things are not bad enough for me PERSONALLY to take the risk. I guess that, like Bush, Cheney, and Barack, I'm a coward at heart.

Re: “Dick the Trepid

The unkindest cut of all is that BHO seems to be following closely down the Cheney/Bush path.

Don't feel too bad, Disgusted Boisian: I got sucked in, too. In fact, I won't be completely convinced until next Odin's day.

Re: “Change You Can Parse

I see the "conservatives" as yet have nothing to say about Mr. Rall's skewering of the president. Sadly, Mr. Rall appears to be correct. From his vote to support VISA through his cabinet picks to his new Afghan-Pak policies, President Obama seems to be as warlike as his predecessor. And, in spite of the president's "anger" with the AIG bonuses, the public-private subsidies for "toxic" assets is clearly a gift to the banking and insurance industries, while his mortgage policies are gifts to the real estate industry: Long live the FIRE cartel. (It's even interesting to note that the AIG bonuses equal almost exactly 6% of the initial value of the accounts their recipients were managing -- the same percentage typical to the RE part of the cartel.) The only hopes left to poor progressives are 1.) that President Obama continuously emphasizes that his primary operating principles are pragmatism and persistence and 2.) that the president is probably well versed in "The Prince" and "The Art of War".

Re: “Brain Meet

It's nice to the the future losers of the contest are reading BW, even if it is just to be able to snark at progressives.

Re: “Stimulate this

Walt Minnick is the only Idaho citizen I voted for who got elected. But I voted for him because I thought he was running as a Dem. My mistake. In 2010 I intend to campaign against him both at the primary and general levels. (At least if Silly Sali had been elected we wouldn't be surprised by our rep presenting a stupid right-wing idea.) Good luck getting elected as a Dem without progressive supporters, Walt!
