The Artisanals

The Olympic, July 5

Though the Americana rock band The Black Lillies headlines the show at The Olympic on Thursday, July 5, it would be a terrible idea to be fashionably late. Opening band The Artisanals is not to be missed. Billed as both “heartland rock” and “‘70s-rock-meets-dream-pop,” the Charleston, South Carolina-based group is a relative newcomer to the national stage, with only a four-track EP, Literally, Anywhere (self-released, 2017), to its name so far. Still, those four songs hold a lot of promise. The band leans heavily on the smooth, soulful voice of singer-songwriter Johnny Delaware and creative instrumentation including everything from sitar to gong. Plus, the record was produced in an Iowa farmstead-turned-studio, “The Magic Barn”—a sign of good vibes if ever there was one.
