The Cabin Literary Center Receives NEA Grant for Readings & Conversations Series

One of Boise's premier literary organizations is getting a big boost from the National Endowment for the Arts. As part of its second Fiscal Year 2018 round of grants, the NEA announced it will gift a $10,000 Art Works grant to The Cabin literary center.

Specifically, the grant will go toward The Cabin's popular Readings & Conversations program, which concluded its 2017-18 season in April with a presentation at The Egyptian Theatre by journalist Katherine Boo. Other notable authors who have come to Boise via R&C include Colson Whitehead, George Saunders, Reza Aslan, Lauren Groff, Juan Felipe Herrera and Gloria Steinem.

During the 2018-19 season, which kicks off in October, the series will bring to Boise authors Matthew Desmond, Tayari Jones, Tara Westover, David Grann and Jennifer Egan.

In a statement, NEA Chairman Jane Chu wrote, "The variety and quality of these projects speaks to the wealth of creativity and diversity in our country," and The Cabin Executive Director Kurt Zwolfer wrote, "NEA support will help ensure we can continue to bring the country's most talented writers to Boise to help us jump-start a collective conversation on critical issues that affect us as both individuals and as a nation."
