The STIL Will Open Early Saturday, Donate Proceeds, to Celebrate 'National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day'

National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day snuck up on The STIL last year, Co-owner Kasey Allen admitted. Alerted to the holiday at the last minute, the Boise ice cream shop's staff scrambled to partner with nearby Waffle Me Up to serve waffles in-store for the occasion. They pulled it off, but not quickly enough to open early—which in a way defeated the point.

"It wasn't really ice cream for breakfast," Allen said, recalling the noon opening.

This year though, The STIL is well prepared. On Saturday, Feb. 2, it will open at 9 a.m. to serve ice cream—including a fresh batch of it's maple and bacon flavor dubbed "Breakfast In Bed"—alongside Dawson Taylor coffee, breakfast treats from Mission Donut, juice and mimosas until noon. To top of the festivities, all proceed will go to the local Ronald McDonald House. It's what the shop calls a "'pay-what-you-want'" fundraiser; donations are suggested but not required, with $5 requested for kids and $7 for adults.

Collaborations like these are nothing new for The STIL, which has partnered with nonprofits like Idaho Youth Ranch and the Idaho Humane Society in the past. For this event, Allen and the rest of the staff chose Ronald McDonald House as a beneficiary in order to support its planned expansion.

"We try to do as much for the community as possible, as far as supporting local causes," Allen said, adding that the company's goal is to "spread the love as much as we can."

Here's something else to look forward to, even if you can't make it downtown on Saturday: The STIL plans to make National Ice Cream for Breakfast Day an annual event, with proceeds each year going to charity.
