In an early scene of The Old Man & the Gun, a character played by Sissy Spacek turns to fellow Oscar-winner Robert Redford, portraying a rather cuddly crook, and talks about her passion for horses.

"Oh, I love to ride," she says. "Do you ride?"

"Nope. Never have. But it's on my list," says Redford.

Now, that's acting, especially considering that during his nearly 60-year career, Redford has been in none other than Butch Cassidy and the Sundance Kid, Electric Horseman and even The Horse Whisperer. And in this, his latest (and apparently his final) role, Redford portrays Forrest Tucker, a serial bank robber continually described as a "gentleman" bandit by most of his victims. In a now-famous story published by The New Yorker in 2003, Tucker's legend was sealed when it was reported that, in addition to all of his heists, Tucker also escaped from prison 18 times. So, who better than Redford, the actor who pulled off the biggest "sting" in film history, to fill Tucker's loafers?

The Old Man & The Gun was written and directed by David Lowery (A Ghost Story, Pete's Dragon) and the supporting cast is almost as much fun to watch as Redford having a grand-old time. In addition to Spacek, there's Casey Affleck, Danny Glover and Tom Waits (who nearly steals the film from Redford).

"Probably," was the only response that Redford would give as he was repeatedly asked by this reporter and the rest of the world press whether this indeed was his final role. "Probably," he said over and over as he walked down the red carpet at the film's premiere at the Toronto International Film Festival.

Redford only broke from his "probably" mantra once. When asked what it was like looking back on his career, a smile flashed, and those famously blue eyes twinkled.

"Well, it's the work, isn't it. If you look..."  Redford paused for a moment. "Well, if you look at the whole journey, and all of those films... well, you can just judge for yourself. I just had a lot of fun doing them all."
