Trailing of the Sheep Festival

Runs through Sunday, Oct. 14, Ketchum

Considering Idaho's 210,000 head of sheep, Sun Valley is both one of the most appropriate and one of the most picturesque spots in the U.S. to celebrate the fluffly critters—and its annual Trailing of the Sheep Festival doesn't disappoint, offering visitors five days of sheep-centric cooking demonstrations, lamb tastings, wool dyeing and rug-making classes, sheep ranching Q&A sessions, sheepdog herding competitions, live music and more. The most jaw-dropping event of the festival is easily the Trailing of the Sheep Parade at noon on Sunday, when a river of 1,500 sheep will flow on hoof down Main Street in Ketchum. Just be sure to make your hotel reservations fast if you want to snag a spot in the city—culture junkies from across the world will be flying in, too.
