Re: “Dog Eat Dog

I was stunned when I read the accusations levied in the article by Deanna Darr, titled “Dog Eat Dog”. I attended the referenced Leadership class in December and I found it to be tremendously rewarding. I have since recommended the class numerous times over. In fact, I believe that anyone who owns a dog should take the class. Richard and Linda are amazing in their knowledge, teachings and compassion for the animals. I learned more about dog behavior and communication in the first class alone than I had in 15 years of owning dogs. Richard was assertive, but never aggressive. He was firm with his voice, as he instructed us to be, ONLY when we were saying “No”. Richard also emphasized employing a loving voice filled with praise when the dog was behaving well and he demonstrated this constantly with each dog in class. Mr. Yanez taught us to think more like a dog, instead of expecting our dog to think more like humans. Richard was compassionate, highly educated, and effective in the teachings. My dog loved going to the class, and has since been going to their daycare program and can’t get enough of The Dog House. It seems that a bit more research would have been appropriate before dragging a person’s name, business and reputation through the mud. The Idaho Humane Society may need to reexamine its policies regarding citations, but BW should read its articles a bit more carefully before publication. The story read more like a smear campaign than it did an examination of the Idaho Humane Society practices.
