Business Insider reports that as of 2013, there were just under 11 million people of Scottish or Scots-Irish descent living in America. And the annual Treasure Valley Celtic Festival and Highland Games makes it clear Idaho has its fair share. Slated for Saturday, Sept. 15, it's a celebration of Scottish culture that plays host to more than 30 family clans and pits world-class athletes against each other in contests like hammer throwing, the sheaf toss (which involves using a pitchfork to hurl a straw-stuffed burlap bag over a horizontal bar) and the stone put. Vendors, dancing and food trucks will abound; music will blast from two stages and the City of Trees Gaelic Club will be on hand for language lessons. Scottish or not, prepare to have a good Old Country time.
