NHL BRUTE BOTH IN AND "OUT" OF PENALTY BOX

National Hockey League third-string forward Mike Danton was arrested at San Jose International Airport on Friday, April 16 on charges stemming from a murder-most-foul-for-hire plot. Danton and Katie Wolfmeyer, a 19-year-old hockey groupie, allegedly offered $10,000 to an undercover FBI agent to kill an unnamed acquaintance who was threatening to ruin Danton's career by telling team management about Danton's promiscuity and alcohol abuse. By Saturday many media outlets—including several in the gay community—had announced that the alleged hit was to be directed at a gay lover who had threatened to "out" Danton to his team. Danton, who had been estranged from his family for years and recently changed his name from "Jefferson" to "Danton," had given no public indication of his sexual orientation, and all reports were vehemently denied by Danton's agent David Frost.

Over the weekend, the argument escalated as Danton's father Stephen Jefferson accused Frost of brainwashing Danton and "[ruining] my son's life." Frost responded by implicating Jefferson and his questionable relationship with Danton for the hockey player's history of mental and emotional turmoil.

On Tuesday, April 20 the case took its strangest turn yet when St. Louis news services reported that the FBI had discovered that Frost himself was the intended target of Danton and Wolfmeyer's hit.
