Unsubstantiated Rumor of the Week 

According to recent stories in The New York Times and elsewhere, Google has been accumulating large amounts of fiber-optic cable and may have plans of building a nationwide, free wireless Internet network. It is already bidding on WiFi projects covering several California cities.

As if we needed more reason to believe our world is about to be Brave New World, here it is. If universal Internet (read: porn) materializes, and the United States Government continues to support authoritarian policies like the Patriot Act, Google might as well change its name to Soma.
