Volunteers were out in force Saturday to participate in a holiday remembrance of those who have served. The nonprofit Wreaths Across America made it possible to place Christmas wreaths at every grave site at Idaho State Veterans Cemetery in Boise.

In 1992, a Maine businessman Morrill Worcester, owner of a Christmas wreath company,  donated 5,000 frsh evergreen wreathes to Arlington National Cemetery. Ever since, wreaths have been placed at Arlington grave sites for the holidays. And in 2007, a nonprofit expanded the effort nationwide. In 2017, more than 1,500,000 wreaths were laid at veterans' grave sites.

More than 4,700 wreaths have been sponsored at the Idaho State Veterans Cemetery. Additionally wreaths are being placed this holiday season at the South Central Idaho Veterans Park in the Gooding County community of Wendell.

For those who would like to sponsor a wreath ($15 each) for next year’s ceremony, go to wreathsacrossamerica.org.
